Chitakoot waterfall which is also spelled as Chitrakut, Chitrakot is a natural waterfall located to the west of Jagdalpur, in Bastar district in the state of Chhattisgarh on the Indravati River. The beautiful waterfall is about 29 metres high.

Chitrakoot is the widest fall in India about 300 metres. Because of its width and wide spread during the monsoon months, it is often called the Niagara Falls of India. The Chitrakoot waterfalls appear to be in the shape of a horse-shoe.

Indravati River which starts its journey from the Vindhya ranges, converts into a picturesque delight at the point where the Chitrakoot Falls are located. One is sure to get enthralled by the serene beauty and magnificence of the Chitrakoot Falls and the surrounding environment.

Chitrakoot does not have wide-range of accommodation options. Government resort has got its own restaurants which prepares decent regular meals. Some resorts are built on the ridge opposite to waterfall offering spectacular views from the balconies of most of the rooms. Besides resort, there are also bamboo huts overlooking the waterfalls.

How to Reach Chitrakoot Waterfall? :

Chitrakoot falls is connected with public buses. The Buses to Chitrakoot falls depart from Agrasen trisquare.  There are only 3-4 buses in a day and journey time is nearly 2 hours as bus will stop at all the Village hats en route.

For return journey, the last bus from Chitrakoot falls to Jagdalpur departs at 5:00 PM in the evening. Alternatively, there are shared autos to other villages (Potanar, Badanji) those fall on Jagdalpur-Chitrakoot road. Impromptus travelers can rely on hitch-hiking.  If you like convenient travel then hires a private car from Jagdalpur.

Best Time to Visit Chitrakoot Waterfall :

Chitrakoot Falls throughout the year. However, from the months of July to October, the waterfall attains its wild and extreme form. If you want to enjoy the calm white waterfall, the best time to visit the Chitrakoot Falls is during winter months from November to February.

Chitrakoot is India’s largest waterfall and very beautiful place so one should once visit this beautiful place in the life.
