Chaitra Navratri or Vasant Navratri is elebrated in the first month of Hindu lunar calendar and Ram Navami, the birthday of Lord Rama, falls on the ninth day during Navratri. Chaitra Navratri 2015 is starting from 21 March to 28 March 2015. Chaitra is the first month of Hindu lunar calendar.

21 March 2015 (Day 1) – Pratipada/Kalash Sthapana & Sailputri
22 March 2015 (Day 2 & 3) – Dwitiya Brahmacharini Puja & Tritiya Chandraghanta Puja
23 March 2015 (Day 4) – Chaturthi or Kushmanda Puja
24 March 2015 (Day 5) – Panchami or Skandamata Puja
25 March 2015 (Day 6) – Shashthi or Katyayani Puja
26 March 2015 (Day 7) – Saptami (Maha Saptami) or Kalaratri Puja
27 March 2015 (Day 8) – Durga Ashtami or Sandhi Puja
28 March 2015 (Day 9) – Rama Navami or Dashami
According to Pandits, Beginning of Navratas from Saturday indicates good sign of prosperity. In fact, On 21st March, day and night are of equal timings. Chaitra Navratri brings prosperity with purchase of Land, buildings, vehicles and jewelery.
First day of Chaitra Navratri or Vasant Navratri is known as Gudi Padwa. The nine days of Chaitra Navratri is dedicated to nine forms of Maa Durga. Chaitra Navratri is more popular in northern India. In Maharashtra Chaitra Navratri begins with Gudi Padwa and in Andhra Pradesh it begins with Ugadi.
Temples, communities and family shrines are decorated for the Chaitra Navratri and Ramnavmi festive celebration. People also observe fast during the day and end the day with feasting. People are visiting Temples and having fast. Many people are observing fast for all 9 days.
Navratri is the most auspicious festival of Hindu. Hindus are avoiding non vegetarian food during Chaitra Navratri or Ashwin Navratri. Many rituals and Puja vidhis are followed in various states of India.
