Dholavira Kutch is an archaeological site in Khadir bet in Bhachau Taluka of Kachchh district of Gujarat state in western India, which has taken its name from a modern village 1 km south of it. The site of Dholavira, locally known as Kotada timba contains ruins of an ancient Harappan city. It is one of the five largest Harappan sites and most prominent archaeological sites in India belonging to the Indus Valley Civilization. It is also considered as grandest of cities of its time. Dholavira is located on the Khadir bet island in the Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary in Great Rann of Kutch and the area of the full site is more than 100 acres. It belongs to the Indus Valley Civilization and is located exactly on the Khadir bet island in the Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary.

On and above all Harappan sites, the site of Dholavira nearby known as Kotada, in the Khadir island of Kutch stands separately. It is memorable for its wonderful planning and vastness of area and deposit. Currently, we can say that Dholavira in Kutch is one of the two largest arrangements in India and the fourth or fifth largest in the subcontinent.

Dholavira presents a “Harappan city".  Inside the general strengthening, there are three separate complexes: An Acropolis, a middle town and a lower town. Finally, Dholavira has one of the world’s earliest water conservation systems ever excavated. Satellite pictures show a reservoir underground, an expertly constructed rainwater harvesting system extending from the walls of the city, without which the settlement would not have thrived in the sparse rainfall of the desert. Like Lothal, it passed through all the stages of the Harappan culture from circa 2900 BC to 1500 BC, while most others saw only the early or late stages. Dholavira is one of the two largest Harappan sites in India, and 5th largest in the subcontinent.
