Ear cleaning with cotton buds, which is very common matter known by everyone but the proper way to clean your ears is very important. Ear is very sensitive part of our body which is having the most complex structure inside so taking care of your ear is must.

Many doctors and studies are denying to use cotton buds for cleaning ears but it is safe, if you use it properly.

Importance of cleaning ears and how often should it be cleaned? :

It’s important to clean your ears so that you have just the right amount of earwax. If you don’t clean them, earwax can become impacted, resulting in ear aches, hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing, or the sensation of sound in the ear).

The frequency of ear cleaning varies by individual, as some people simply produce more earwax than others. We suggest you to clean your earwax after every 7 to 10 days. You can clean your outer area of ear on regular basis.

Correct way to clean your ears :

The ear is designed to self-cleanse through producing wax and moving debris, causing earwax to naturally migrate toward the outer ear for easy and gentle removal.

When cleaning your ears, it is okay to use a washcloth or tissue or cotton bud to clean earwax from the opening of the ear canal, without actually inserting anything into the ear.

Gentle irrigation in the shower can also help loosen earwax but should not necessarily be done every day.

 Too much moisture in the ear canal can lead to dermatitis (infection of the skin) and possible outer ear infection. If more water goes inside ears, you should sleep or move your neck on the effected side or gently push cotton bud inside the ear.

The cotton absorbs the water so you can get fast relief from that moisture.

Overuse of cotton bud can lead to breakdown of the skin of the ear canal, inflammation and infection.

Mineral oil drops also are very safe to use and can be effective maintenance for people with mild to moderate earwax build-up.

Use of three to five drops of mineral oil in each ear once or twice a week can soften earwax and prevent build-up.
